As the
title implies, this book is about Harriet Tubman, a black slave who escaped and
then spent her life helping other slaves escape to freedom via the Underground
Railroad. The book begins with Harriet speaking to a group of ladies gathered
in Thomas Garrett’s parlor, himself a key figure in the Underground Railway.
The book, although quite short, is fascinating and full of Harriet’s stories
about her life and adventures. It is amazing to know that all of them true. The
author makes the history interesting and not just fact-based. It’s this style
which will entice people to read it and learn about the past. My only wish is
that it had been longer because I enjoyed it so much. Mr. Wilson clearly
researched this aspect of history thoroughly and gives fascinating details
about how the Underground Railway worked. I read this book in digital form and
it worked well. The cover fit the subject matter. This is an excellent book and
well worth reading.
